The joke here is that the majority of FAANG engineers are actually doing anything but saying "I'm blocked on" every week.

You're supposed to keep an apprentice, man!

Every forum gets regulars and their fan clubs. If you go to /r/comics and look at top for the month you'll see 4 out of 5 are pizzacakecomic. People on these forums sort of form a fanclub around 'their guy'. This forum's guy is this chap. Not much point being upset about it, tbh.

> Modern morality prevents such scale and tactics until it does not.

In the sense that the tide of geopolitics means that if someone tried that they'd mark themselves as a defector in the current scheme of morality and would stand to lose a lot when the rest of Europe inevitably treats that as an example of how they are about to be treated.

I mean yes it depends on your definition of humid but if your definition of humid is under 20% RH then that's not in agreement with any other humans on the planet and if it's over 50% RH then no, millions of people are not doing this because they would die. Our bedroom is at 50% RH because under that our baby's skin dries out. There's no way anyone is sitting in a 90 C 50% RH sauna for any appreciable amount of time. They would die.

I think that’s pretty much the same. NERV uses child soldiers and is secretly planning a fused hivemind. They are the Torment Nexus.

That's true, but I think the difference lies in the fact that the company using the NERV name for their product is a public disadter alert service, and doesn't seek to do or emulate anything it's named after.

That's not the same for a surveillance company or a defence contractor named after the big bad of a media franchise.

If (probably bad example) FEMA started referring to its aid workers as storm troopers I'd find it a bit unsettling (actually I kind of wish they'd do that because dad jokes are the best). Similarly, while I find the reference amusing the NERV moniker doesn't exactly inspire confidence. I suppose an important difference is that they're a mixed bag rather than a purely evil organization but still.

Dude that’s fucking hilarious. Storm troopers. Amazing.

Yeah, same. So long as they give me everything and cannot enforce their license I don’t mind if they require a license. Ideally the weights should be available even if I only ever run inference once (or perhaps no times). I’m willing to pay 0.99€ for this - lifetime of course.

And you won’t believe it but the US didn’t make J D Power Best Places To Work either. In fact, I’m told that the Barclays Certified Happy Places To Live Brought To You By Standard Chartered doesn’t list a single American city.

To the country's credit, it is rocketing up the 2026 banana republic charts.

JD Power ranking American fashion brands now? Not bad.

Yeah and exactly zero of those companies are European as a consequence. I think we won’t be taking Europe’s lead on this, thanks.

How do you reconcile this capitalistic zeal with how opposed to honest capitalism these companies are?

I reconcile that with the fact that Europe doesn't make enough DRAM for me.

So, as long as you can have your desires met, you don't really care about however much harm happens to anyone?

Neither does anyone else, as is being demonstrated currently.

I imagine it's because she's in the opposition and has been doing this for a long time with the justification "We are a free market economy. They should be able to participate in that" https://apnews.com/article/business-nancy-pelosi-congress-86...

So it's worthwhile to note that both major political parties believe this is acceptable.
