Thank you, dang!

I was reminded of Tim Berners-Lee's opinion on new TLDs since Google recently announced opening the .new TLD to the public.

IMO, as long as the domain _looks_ like a web URL and is memorable then it is good for The Web (tm). Though, I would prefer that control over TLDs would be distributed rather than be in the hands of select large tech companies.

It was probably not a mistake. It was to separate Hypertext from other files. The file: protocol still works in the a browser with a hostname as well. IE: file:///10.1.1.10/files/example.xlsx

I can't believe I didn't know that until now! I've personally used file: only to test local copies of static files/sites, and haven't had a need beyond that.

I wonder how the browser distinguishes between a file residing on a host addressable at 10.1.1.10, and the local path /10.1.1.10/files/example.xlsx. Maybe it tries one and then the other if the first doesn't work.

They would be different URIs. file://10.1.1.10/files/example.xlsx - remote vs file:///10.1.1.10/files/example.xlsx - local

Although it will use the underlying file sharing stack such as NFS or SMB, and not HTTP.

I'd like to second this. The "crack team" was the company that won the contract. I've seen first hand of companies hiring just about anyone as a contractor before a contract was even granted. Promises of a high potential salary usually lures these people.

Phones aren't allowed in SCIFs (the facility she worked in).

Hard drives labeled unclassified can be removed from those facilities with special permission but I think hard drives are under more scrutiny nowadays.

There are much easier ways to exfil data from a scif than photos. Esp. If you are a contractor.

Do tell.

Air Force Cryptolinguist training is up to 480 days[0]. So, someone out of high school can sign up to the Air Force and complete the training in a little under 2 years. Her first job as a cryptolinguist would be working at a DoD related agency working on TS material. So yes, you are asked to believe this because this is a common occurrence.

One of the smartest people I've met had this exact job immediately after HS. If this is the type of career you want it's actually a very good path. It gets you relevant experience while most of your HS classmates are still in college, you can get a degree either during your tour or immediately after, debt free, and by the time you're done you've been pretty extensively vetted.

'Premium Fridays' are a bit of a joke in Japan and many people aren't even participating. When they do participate, it's only under the presumption that employees will take their holiday time off. It isn't even free to the employees.

Here's an article[0] that promotes "Premium Fridays" that states:

> [The] Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, which is pushing the idea, hasn’t decided yet if its officials will get to join in.

This is supposed to prevent keylogging.. but I think anything with that amount of access to your PC can tap into the browser to read the request before it's sent. So, probably not as good as it sounds.

It would prevent physical keyloggers (small dongles in between keyboard and computer) and possibly even RF keylogging, but yeah, it's a false sense of security.

Yes, and it may also screenshoting the pixels around where mouse clicks, so I don't think it can prevent keylooger. OTP is better solution.

Minor correction: it's "seishain". 正社員(せいしゃいん)

Thanks, my Japanese is really bad haha.
