why haven't any animals adapted to this role for humans!

This one is doing the job on almost every body you know: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demodex

In a Sense, cats did actually. Not through direct contact, but by getting rid of mice and rats that infiltrate food storage.

Cat’s will also literally try to clean you as well!

When i was born, my parents cats groomed me. After a year or two they stopped. But yeah, some cats cats totally groom humans.

Plenty of bacteria lives in your guts feeding on your food and generating useful by-products.

And plenty live on your skin, causing no harm but making it nearly impossible for dangerous bacteria to thrive.

Apes commonly practice social grooming. So, humans are the animal adapted to this role for humans.

You too can let ants crawl all over you. They will find snacks.

If you do this, you will start to develop spontaneous feelings of ants crawling all over you whether or not they're really there. I wouldn't recommend it.

How do you know they didn't? When was the last time you just let bugs spend time on you?

There are more mites specialized to live on your eyebrows skin than many like to think about. =3

Not just mites, we’re absolutely covered and full of commensal organisms. What’s really interesting is how specialized these organisms have become, like the difference between body and head lice. We have critters socialized to just our eyebrows and eyelashes, others only live in apocrine sweat glands, etc.

Even before you get to the literal kilograms of bacteria, fungi and other fauna in our guts we’re a whole world unto ourselves.

We just don’t usually notice.

If you think about the most commonly accepted history of eukaryotic life, it’s been this way from the beginning! Our cells themselves are bags of specialized microorganisms that changed and became integral to each other’s existence over time.

There are many Garra rufa subspecies that were the source of compounds used in treating modern autoimmune and skin disorders.

The fishes histories go back thousands of years. As a species it is super interesting... some evolved in hot-spring conditions that would simply cook most other animals. =3

Lol!

Because there hasn’t been enough time and the ecological niche is non existent… ?

However… upon further inspection, one could argue that the micro biome is full of beneficial micro organisms that have evolved to fill this niche…

[1] Staphylococcus epidermidis

This is one of the most abundant and beneficial bacteria on human skin. It produces antimicrobial peptides and metabolites that inhibit the growth of pathogenic bacteria.

[2] Cutibacterium acnes

Despite its association with acne, this bacterium actually plays an important role in skin health by producing propionic acid, which helps maintain skin pH and prevents overgrowth of harmful organisms.

[3] Corynebacterium species

Various corynebacteria colonize the skin and produce lipases and other enzymes that help break down sebum (skin oils) and maintain healthy skin conditions.

[4] Malassezia species

These yeasts are abundant on skin and help regulate the skin microbiome, though they can sometimes cause issues in excess.

Can we squint and say the gut microbiome is kind of like this?

Humans are the exoskeleton for gut bacteria.

most people find it disgusting, but some rat owners will let their rats clean their teeth and the rats seem to enjoy the activity much like how other social animals enjoy grooming each other

I think you need different marketing pages/brands to segment your customers.

The person choosing this for wedding invitations does not want to think about it being used as a marketing gimmick, and the two will pay different prices

I would have appreciated the writer sharing more about their personal context.

"The problem with the Grand Canyon is you drive up to it, go 'ooh! ahh!' for maybe a maximum of 15 minutes, and then you’re done"

Are they disabled? I don't know how to interpret it.

Trying to answer what I think is the most reasonable point you’re trying to make: supply chain extends beyond you and your actions.

What if you were distributing food, and a farmer who supplied rice to one of the manufacturers of the components of your food grew that rice on a field that was contaminated with arsenic?

If you will get bad food, who are you going to blame? Very likely the person who you get the food from, not going up the supply chain like a detective.

Ok, so free software cannot exist is what you're telling us. Hell, I swear Microsoft and Oracle has their lawyers in here posting.

I am just saying that license, TOS or lack of both is not above the law.

That is why the licenses exist, and not reading the license isnt the suppliers problem.

Well actually you ate poisoned food made by someone else, which had a similar looking name (typo squatting). Who is responsible here? One who wrote code?

It was not me sir who poisoned you, it was Josh, my evil twin! I swear!

In general no! The EFF is not interested in litigating laws that are firmly established! They spend their resources on cases that can set legal precedent.

When you call about something like this, they’ll try to give you some general advice and refer you to a law firm.

but can't it set a dangerous precedent if it escalates further?

Huge swaths of our densest metro areas, in our largest cities, do not have any fiber option, just one cable provider.

The NEC, which is the only area of the US that really has any density to speak of, does have pretty good fiber penetration.

It reads like people are almost purposefully misinterpreting what he said to give themselves a basis to disagree.

This is what drives people on Twitter to write incredibly defensive posts that attempt to address every possible misinterpretation and criticism.

That type of writing is useless, because motivated people will still search for a new angle of disagreement, and the impact of the message is diluted by the time spent addressing the criticisms. Can you imagine how bland this would have been if he started it with an explanation of Catholic just war theory and a list of reasons why this war doesn’t qualify

Even if you don’t profit but place what looks like smart bets

A casino or bookmaker doesn't need to heuristically identify betting behaviour that's 'smart'. They don't need to spot evidence that could be hidden by good opsec. No need to find micro-expressions or hidden cheating gadgets. Nor to do background checks to know you've got a buddy with insider knowledge.

All they need to do is check if you're cashing out more chips than you came in with.

It's not trivial for the casino to track this against a determined adversary. If you're already thinking about "good opsec", you can get someone else to help cash out your winnings.

A buddy from out of town, or a losing regular, or a poker player who the casino doesn't care if they win. In Vegas some casinos' chips are negotiable, officially or unofficially, in other casinos.

Exactly - they don’t need to catch you cheating, they just need to decide you’re bad for business

Thinking about your point- I bet we do not know if some people have it on or not. It feels like something that would have to be specifically investigated.

Your inability to think of any possible benefits to age verification shows that you’re more emotional than rational about the subject.

I’m not saying that the potential benefits outweigh the detriments, but they do exist.

There's a good chance they've thought of the possible benefits and determined that the benefits are so small relative to the negative side effects that they round to 0.

There’s no benefit that a vchip style header on websites that browsers can use to set age limits locally isn’t the better option for.

I can think of plenty of hypothetical benefits. But it's not worth it; the cure is worse than the disease.

Like what? Have the perpetrators in epstein files been brought to justice? THere are different ways to tackle: for example explicitly fining OpenAI, Google, Meta etc. and not individuals and people who need E2E encryption, free OS and free speeech. Sounds like you would rather live in a dictatorial authoritarian police state instead of thinking for everyone. And take care of your own children. They are not my problem. GTFO
