How about that 50x leverage $200M BTC + ETH trade mere minutes before Trump announced the crypto reserve? [0] Like we all know Nancy does it but that doesn't make it ok for the Grifter in Chief to do it.

I found Marc to be totally insufferable in that episode too. It was blatantly obvious that everything he said was a weak, nonsensical attempt to justify his (and Elon’s) obvious goals of destroying government infrastructure to enable privatization, and removing any and all regulatory oversight so the billionaire class can further exploit America’s labor and natural resources. Both of which do nothing to help the ordinary American but do a lot to enrich the billionaires.

Just a guess as I really have no idea but maybe subsidies?

Right, subsidies, tax breaks.

But a big problem, especially when it comes to competing with China, is that you need your supply chain to be local too. The main reason manufacturing is so affordable in China is not just labor costs, which are now lower in some other countries than China, but because you have the entire supply chain right at hand.

Very well written, and more or less aligns with my own thinking.

I’d love to see that happen as much as you but it really is irrelevant for this case. The truth is that this case is about which government gets to brainwash the masses. By far and away the greatest threat Tiktok poses to the US is a foreign government having that ability to control public opinion en masse.

What does this shutdown mean for US employees of Bytedance? Will they shut down their US offices or continue business as usual working from the US but only serving users outside?

When I moved country and updated my credit card in Spotify to my card from the new country Spotify also changed my “region”. As a result there are so many songs I have “starred”/“added”/“liked” (whatever fucking language they’re using for it now) are just greyed out and unplayable.

Anyway as for actually getting copies of the music I listen to I think we should just pirate it completely unashamedly.

some time ago when I canceled spotify, they show this special playlist like "we'll miss you" or whatever, and each of the song names, in order, spell out this little goodbye message. Ironically one of the songs in that playlist was greyed out and unplayable. Like, great job reminding me why I'm canceling :)

It's probably not Spotify's fault though, but it's actually on account of being able to finely control legal ownership of licensed songs. This is all insane imo, but legally sound. Welcome to the future.

That sounds really frustrating! It’s one of those cases where it feels like the system is actively working against the listener

You must be thinking of the US dollar.

I really wish we had duress passcodes for iOS and Android.

Android has profiles, so at least you can log in to your travel profile in advance.

If only iOS supported accounts.

What would those passwords do? Would that thing be a crime in Australia?

There could be multiple duress passwords, one type would silently wipe the phone while displaying some fake data in a fake/locked down OS. Another would brick the device, another would turn on tracking and call authorities of choice..

Bricking or wiping isn't a good option because it makes it obvious what you did. One of the properties you want from a duress passcode is to convince the attacker (the border force in this case) you gave them what they want. Convincing fake data is hard to generate and easy to spot. Another alternative is for the duress passcode to unlock a subset of data and apps. This lets them see real but uninteresting data like contacts or family photos while keeping your personal documents (business, legal, medical, financial, keychain, or otherwise sensitive) private.

> I'd love to see regulation around all social media algorithms to ensure they're unbiased.

The bias is a feature. They just don't like the fact that they can't control the bias on TikTok so it spews Chinese propaganda instead of Western propaganda.

Does it spew Chinese propaganda though? Have you even used TikTok?
